1ST GOUROCK SCOUTS

£5,000 AWARD

1st Gourock Scout Group received a Sustainable Development Grant of £5,000 from the Inverclyde Windfarm Fund.

"Recently, 1st Gourock Scout Group has seen an increase in requests for support at community events and the need for equipment and volunteer labour.

"While the scout group is able to provide volunteers, there is a need for equipment to support community events for local groups.

"There are no other local options open to support organisers of local events, and hiring equipment is becoming more and more costly.

"The grant will contribute to the purchase of gazebos, a marquee, lightweight trestle tables, and benches.

"The project will ensure that there is a bank of kit readily available for events in Gourock and wider communities.

"The project will contribute to sustainable development in the area by supporting the community, and the economy by reducing the costs to local groups, and the local culture by supporting local events.

“We think it will make a difference not just to our own group in terms of equipment but to local people, charities, community groups, and good causes trying their best to deliver community benefit because there will be somewhere to turn to for event support. It also provides our young people with more community volunteering opportunities.”

Mark Gallagher, Group Scout Leader.
